Design for all users
Accessibility in the UI
Yes, that's right! Accessibility.
Maybe not the term that first comes to mind when you open an app.
In fact, accessibility plays an extremely important role in UI design. When choosing colors, the designer has to take various factors into account:
Contrasts and colors: In Germany alone, around 4 million people suffer from color vision disorders, which means that they can either see certain colors very poorly or not at all.
High contrasts - for example between text and background - make content easier to read for all users and clearly highlight important elements such as buttons, links or warning messages.
By selecting colors carefully and using them effectively, users with visual impairments can understand and use the app more easily. For example, a clear distinction between active and inactive states or different functional areas helps to avoid confusion. Accessible design is not only inclusive, it also improves the overall user experience.
Light sensitivity is also included in the UI process.
From 2025, accessibility in the UI will play an even greater role
From 2025, the European Union will breathe new life into digital accessibility with the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Whether websites, apps, bank terminals, ticket machines or e-books - they should all be accessible to people with disabilities and adapted to their needs. The idea behind it is simple: no more digital hurdles. A clear and uniform standard across the EU should ensure that every user has barrier-free access to digital services.
Sailrs is already fully on board! So if you want to start making your project barrier-free now, we will be happy to support you.
